Make it! Mini colourful pillow !!!

Do you remember these little beauties ???

Well, if not (!!!!!), you can read all the story about them in THIS OLD POST of mine !!! ;oD

Anyhow, today I celebrate my first 5000 followers on INSTAGRAM !!!!

So I decided to THANK YOU, old and new followers, with a new free pattern : yes, a mini pillow pattern, as I was asked various times if there was a pattern for this little thing .... NOW YES!!!

WHAT YOU NEED :

some chunky and colourful yarns
a 5,5mm hook
a pair of scissors
a yarn needle
stitch markers (optional): I put them in each first and last stitches of both semicircles!
toy stuffing

Remember that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you!

I've been using yarns from my personal stash. You can use any kind of yarn weight, to have a smaller or bigger pillow!!!! If you don't like the "V" shape of the pillow's base, simply crochet less stitches in the semi rounds of the oval : instead of 7 stitches (read first round of pattern), try with 5 or 3 !!! ;oD

Note that the pattern increases of 14 stitches every round !!!!

PATTERN

1st round : choose a colour to start your work (PATONS JET 12 ply shade 812 pink) and make a slip knot on your hook and chain 18. Wrap yarn around hook, insert the tip in 3rd chain from hook and crochet your first double crochet (=DC). Work other 14 DC in next chains. In last chain, instead, crochet 7 DC. In doing so, you have automatically turned your work upside-down, so now work 14 DC along the base and in the last chain crochet 6 DC (change colour in last DC as explained HERE, as I do or change it at the beginning of next round!) and slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 42).
When I change colour, I cut the old one and I work the new one (some stitches) around the tails of both old and new colours. then I cut the excesses of yarn!

2nd round : with the new colour (PATONS JET 12 ply shade 708 rose) chain 2 and 2 DC in same stitch, then work 14 DC along the straight edge. In the first semicircle work 2 DC in each stitch (total=14 DC), then crochet 14 DC along the other straight edge. Last semicircle : work 2 DC in each stitch (total=12 DC). Remember to change colour in last DC, if you like! Slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 56)

3rd round : with the new colour (ROBIN PAINTBOX chunky shade sunset) chain 2 and 1 DC in same stitch, then 2 DC in next stitch. Work 14 DC along the straight edge. In the first semicircle work (1 DC in first stitch + 2 DC in next stitch) 7 times (total=21 stitches), then crochet 14 DC along the other straight edge. Last semicircle : repeat (1 DC in first stitch + 2 DC in next stitch) 6 times (total=18 stitches). Remember to change colour in last DC! Slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 70)

4th round : with the new colour (PATONS JET 12 ply shade 810 green) chain 2 and 1 DC in same stitch, 1 DC in next stitch and 2 DC in the following stitch. Work 14 stitches along the straight edge. In the first semicircle work (2 DC in next 2 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 7 times (total=28 stitches). Crochet 14 DC along the other straight edge. Last semicircle : repeat (3 DC in next 3 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 6 times (total=30 stitches). Remember to change colour in last DC ! Slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 98)

Last semicircle : repeat (4 DC in next 4 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 6 times (total=36 stitches). Remember to change colour in last DC ! Slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 112)

In the first semicircle work (7 DC in next 7 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 7 times (total=63 stitches). Crochet 14 DC along the other straight edge. Last semicircle : repeat (7 DC in next 7 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 6 times (total=54 stitches). Remember to change colour in last DC ! Slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 154)

10th round : with new colour (FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 334 pink) chain 2 and 1 DC in same stitch, then work 7 DC in next 7 stitches and 2 DC in following stitch. Work 14 DC along the straight edge. In the first semicircle work (8 DC in next 8 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 7 times (total=70 stitches). Crochet 14 DC along the other straight edge. Last semicircle : repeat (8 DC in next 8 stitches + 2 DC in following stitch) 6 times (total=60 stitches). Remember to change colour in last DC! Slip stitch in top of first DC. (total stitches : 182)

You have completed the oval shape !!! It will be quite crinkly, but no worries : the stuffing will smooth every unevenness !!!

If you like, you can weave in some tails !!! ;oD

12th round (scallops) : with new colour (KARTOPU ZAMBAK shade K1001 grey) chain 1 and 1 single crochet (=SC) in same stitch, skip stitch, 6 DC in next stitch, skip stitch, 1 SC in next stitch. Repeat (skip stitch, 6 DC in next stitch, skip stitch, 1 SC in next stitch) 43 times.
Work last scallop (#45) : skip stitch, 6 DC in next stitch, skip stitch and slip stitch in first SC.

Cut yarn, end off and weave in ends.

The big part is done ! Now we need to fold our piece of fabric in half

Then you need to choose a new colour (FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 92 orange) to start the joining of the scallops, to seal the mini pillow with the toy filling inside !

We have an odd number (45) of scallops, so we will have one scallop on one side with no matching scallop on the other side !!! This scallop will be folded in half and the two halves of the same scallop will match (see above picture on the right and the other picture below) ...

You will push the tip of your hook in this solitary scallop in both stitches numbered 4 and 3 (the central ones of the scallop).
Now, remembering that each scallop is made of 6 stitches and that between the scallops you have 1 SC, you can start the joining with simple slip stitches ...

After the joining of the first 12 couples of scallops, you can start to fill the pillow with some toy stuffing

Little by little you add slip stitches and some stuffing and you reach the end of the pillow, with last scallops and stitches, so you can cut yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends!

As you can see, in the front of your pillow you will have a nice chain of slip stitches, while in the back you will have a kind of straight stitches ...

This new pillow is ready to join some old friends ...

To have an idea of the real dimensions, my son Matteo helped me to take a couple of pictures ...

Hope you like it !!!!

Thank you again for your support, with all my heart

Mega Granny Square Jumper !!!

I started to crochet my first granny square for my jumper-to-be on last 4th of October...

... and little by little, crocheting on a daily basis, I added rounds after rounds ...

... while I was working on other two w.i.p.s, like my PONCHO and the GEODE PILLOW ...

... and when I completed 26 rounds for the first granny, I wanted to block it to see its real measures : it reaches 74 cm for each side (more or less!) ...

The yarns I've been using were all from my personal stash, no new yarn was bought for this project and some are discontinued, while others I have no more the band with all the details or brand.
I will try to give you a kind of yarn list, starting from the center of the granny (I was working with a 6mm hook, btw) :

KATIA AZTECA shade 7837 fuchsia-maroon-brown (53%wool, 47%acrylic)
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 266 off white (47%merino wool, 53%dralon)

PATONS JET 12 ply shade 812 pink
Japanese yarn from GOSYO SANGYO shade bordeaux (variegated)
PATONS JET 12 ply shade 708 rose
KNITTY - 6 MM - shade dark blue (bought in shop, at : casa)
Japanese yarn from GOSYO SANGYO shade white with various colours in
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 334 pink
KARTOPU LAKE K1001 silver grey
PATONS JET 12 ply shade 810 green
SIRDAR CLICK DK shade 200 spicy pink
LANA ACRILI by Huan Qiu s.r.l. shade 718 lilac
WENDY QUASAR CHUNKY shade 2577 infrared
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 34 mustard yellow
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade  92 orange
SIRDAR ESCAPE DK shade 189 desire
ROBIN FX CHUNKY shade 4204 tulip (pink)
acrylic yarn, shade fuchsia from Egypt
SIRDAR CLICK chunky with wool shade 0150 sage green
acrylic yarn, shade turquoise from Egypt
SIRDAR ESCAPE DK shade 0185 passion
APOLLO SCHACHENMAYR NOMOTTA shade 00002 natural
APOLLO SCHACHENMAYR NOMOTTA shade 00050 marine

Once the blocking of the fist granny square was completed, I decided to crochet even one more mega granny and two "smaller" ones as sleeves ...

For each sleeve (after blocking, both sleeves mesure 48 cm each side) I've been working 16 rounds, following this yarn sequence (from the center to the last round) :

SIRDAR CLICK DK shade 200 spicy pink
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 583 bordeaux
WENDY QUASAR CHUNKY shade 2577 infrared
PATONS JET 12 ply shade 812 pink
PATONS JET 12 ply shade 810 green
PATONS JET 12 ply shade 708 rose
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 92 orange
Japanese yarn from GOSYO SANGYO shade white with various colours in
KNITTY - 6 MM - shade dark blue (bought in shop, at : casa)
ROBIN PAINTBOX CHUNKY shade 4003 sunset
FILATI TROPICAL LANE SPENDOBENE SUPER SPORT shade 34 mustard yellow
KARTOPU LAKE shade K1001 silver grey
Japanese yarn from GOSYO SANGYO shade bordeaux (variegated)
APOLLO SCHACHENMAYR NOMOTTA shade 00002 natur
KATIA AZTECA shade 7837 fuchsia-maroon-brown
APOLLO SCHACHENMAYR NOMOTTA shade 00050 marine

Once all the 4 pieces were blocked ...

... It took me some time to take the courage to give a shape to my project, as I never crocheted a jumper before ...

So, last week, in just one morning (with no interruption!!!!), I started to join all the pieces together ...

... so it was ready after some hours (and some single crochets !!!) to wear ...

... don't you believe me ??? ;oD

Here is the proof that this jumper is really wearable and right my size ...

... it as long sleeves and a very cosy fit ... just the way I like it!!!

... do you agree, too? ;oD
