Make it! Knitted elongate heart!

..Something lovely, simple and modern at the same time!
It's the perfect project for little stash of yarn and it takes just half an hour (more or less!) to be knitted!
So, let's start the fun!

You'll need :
  • a pair of straight knitting needles 4mm (...even longer than mine! That was only an aesthetical choice!)
  • 2 yarn balls in the colours you prefer
  • a pair of scissors
  • a tapestry needle
  • a stitch holder
Basic knitting know-how :
  • cast on and slip knot
  • knit (k) (garter stitch)
  • increase method : kfb (knit into front and back of the same stitch)
  • decrease method : k2tog (knit two stitches together)
  • turn
The pattern you'll follow :

cast on 2 stitches (slip knot and one more stitch)
row 1, row 2 : knit 2 stitches
row 3 : kfb first stitch, kfb the second stitch (now you have 4 stitches on your knitting needle)
row 4, row 5, row 6 : knit 4 stitches
row 7 : kfb first stitch, knit 2 stitches, kfb last stitch (6 stitches)
row 8, row 9, row 10 : knit 6 stitches
row 11 : kfb first stitch, knit 4 stitches, kfb last stitch (8 stitches)
row 12, row 13, row 14 : knit 8 stitches
row 15 : kfb first stitch, k 6 stitches, kfb last stitch (10 stitches)
row 16, row 17, row 18 : knit 10 stitches
row 19 : kfb first stitch, knit 8 stitches, kfb last stitch (12 stitches)
row 20, row 21, row 22 : knit 12 stitches
row 23 : kfb first stitch, knit 10 stitches, kfb last stitch (14 stitches)
row 24, row 25, row 26 : knit 14 stitches
row 27 : kfb first stitch, knit 12 stitches, kfb last stitch (16 stitches)
row 28 : knit 16 stitches
row 29 : knit 8 stitches and turn your work ( put the remnants 8 on a stitch holder)
row 30 : k2tog, knit 4 stitches, k2tog (6 stitches on your knitting needle)
row 31, row 32 : knit 6 stitches
row 33 : k2tog, knit 2 stitches, k2tog (4 stitches)
row 34 : knit 4 stitches
row 35 : k2tog, k2tog (2 stitches)
row 36 : k2 tog and cut the yarns (less than 10 cm)
enlarge the loop and pass through the yarns and pull tight!!
Now, go back to the stiches left on the stitch holder. Put them on a knitting needle and knit 8 stitches.
Repeat pattern from row 30 to row 36.

I'll show you step by step, now!
First thing : put a slip knot on the needle

and add a second stitch

so, you can start to knit your first two rows! At the end of row 2, you'll have something like that (it's the base of your heart)

and at the end of row 3 , after the increasing of two stitches, you'll have 4 stitches on your knitting needle

end of row 6

end of row 7 (just after the increasings)

end of row 10

end of row 11 (increasing row)

end of row 14

end of row 15 (increasing row)

end of row 18

end of row 19 (increasing row)

end of row 22

end of row 23 (increasing row)

end of row 26

So, you knit row 27 (no picture : sorry!) with two increasings (begining and end of the row) and then you simply knit row 28 (with 16 stitches)

Start row 29 knitting the first 8 stitches (your first half of the heart's top)

and you have to prepare the stitch holder

and pass the pointed end through the first 4 stitches

and then in the last 4 (total : 8 stitches on the stich holder)

so you can slip off the left knitting needle

and secure the stitch holder! At this point, turn your work

and begin to knit row 30, remembering that this is your first decreasing row, so that at the end you'll have 6 stiches on the needle

end of row 32 (you can see the little bend on the right)

end of row 33 (only 4 stitches left!)

end of row 35 (2 stitches!)

end of row 36 (k2tog) you'll have a loop!

cut the yarns, pass them through the loop and pull them tight! You'll have a knot!

Now, we can go back to the stitches left on the stitch holder

little by little, remove the holder and slide in back the knitting needle. Join new yarns at the beginning of the row and knit 8 stitches

then, follow again the pattern from row 30 to row 36!  Your elongate heart is done!!!

At this point, you can decide if to weave in or not the tails. Infact, if you would like to incorporate your heart in a banner or a necklace, the left tails could be great to knot it on! Even the low tail is nice if you add more threads to make a fringe, for example!
Anyway, if you decide to weave in the ends, your heart will be like that one

In the past, I've been using the hearts born from the above pattern in these ways :

...do you like them?

Make it ! The Granny Yarn Chain !!!

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???? SURE YOU ARE !!! I now that!!!! ;oD So during this last week I was showing you via Instagram (see  my personal feed ) some colourful pictures about my new crochet w.i.p. , which I completed last night ... ... so this morning, before school/office time a couple of boys helped me with the last photos for this blog post ... TA-DAH ... The beauty of this project resides in the fact that is adaptable to any extent, any kind of yarn and any corner of your home (in or out!) !!! The inspiration and "creative kick" derives from two other projects I've seen around :  The Chain Statement Necklace  by my dear friend Miki from  Set Free My Gypsy Soul  and  Peggy's Comfy Indoors Blanket  by Pip Lincoln from  Meet Me at Mike's  !!! Thank you both, girls !!! It has been a long time since I've been wanting to crochet (or even knit !) a paper chain ... I made some long paper chains for our Christmas tree back in Indonesia but I al

Make it ! Knitted triangular scarf !!!

Last December, I saw a very simple and cute scarf knitted by Angie ( le monde de sucrette) and I thought to knit one for me, too, but then I was busy with the gifts to prepare for family and friends back in Italy .... so nothing was done for me!!! Luckily, some days ago, while browsing through my blogs list, I found a post from Ilaria ( IDA interior lifestyle) , who was proposing the same (she added a pompom!) piece of clothing .... I didn't have any excuse to wait longer for knitting my own triangular scarf!!!! ;oD So, I started .... Do you want to start one, too ??? Well, you need : some yarn ! My personal choice was : Lana Grossa Basics Calmo (59% acrylic, 24% cotton and 17% linen), shade 207. All my 4 balls of yarn (50g each) have been used for this project. Then 2 balls (50g each) from Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans Yarn (100% cotton), shade 365-Sierra, for both stripes and tassels! a pair of 4,5mm  knitting circular needles or, if you prefer, a pair of long strai

Make it ! The Granny Bunny !!!

You know, this picture from my  Instagram feed  has collected more than 900 likes ... ... and a colourful crocheter named Karin @woolfieber , made her own version just looking at my pic (you can find her work  HERE  ) !!!! My idea, since the beginning , was to prepare a photo tutorial for you, but do you really need one ? These Granny Bunnies are so easy to crochet, believe me !!!! YOU NEED : some colourful mercerised cotton a 3,5 mm hook a pair of scissors a tapestry needle beads for embellishments (optional) Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you ! Each bunny measures 13 cm in height and it can be used for different purposes : bunting, hanging decorations, appliques, brooches, on napkin rings and more !!!! The sky's the limit !!! You can use this pattern even with different yarns and, consequently, hook sizes !!! ;oD Abbreviations : DC = double crochet ch = chain SC = single crochet 2SCtog = 2 single crochet
